Growing from the roots
The word tereny means land, territory, locality. For us, it expresses love for our own, the desire to develop, preserve and pass it on as an inheritance.
Through our initiatives, we want to show how important it is for us today to grow from the roots – immerse yourself in our history, learn and rediscover yourself, realize and remember what events, phenomena and people existed in these lands before us and, based on them, create something new.
The cultural agency was founded by Tetyana Teren, a journalist and cultural manager.
"Tereny" was founded as a response to the challenges faced by the Ukrainian cultural environment in 2022, when Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine began. Due to security and financial factors, most cultural initiatives in Ukraine were concentrated in a few large cities.
At the same time, the war forced many cultural activists in the regions to leave their homes, which caused a rupture in cultural ties. The war also revealed the need for Ukrainians to learn more about their roots, their history and culture. To value and preserve what is ours, which has been copied, stolen and destroyed by the empire for over three centuries", – Tetyana Teren.
"Tereny" today – is a public organization that develops, preserves and popularizes the cultural heritage of Ukrainian regions and opens them to everyone who is interested in Ukrainian culture, through:
- creation of cultural spaces;
- preservation of cultural heritage;
- research;
- training of cultural workers;
- cultural expeditions;
- awards;
- informational, book projects
- and public events.
The first priority region of the agency – Poltava region.
